Used quite a few reclaimed boards. This little trusty trailer works hard for me. Would be sad with out it's help. "We think we can, we think we can" and we do it. Many windows, belongins, appliances, building materials, camping gear and much more. Thank you little guy.
Found old hinges worked great to attach rail board to rail board. Note pointy bow.
My standing coat rack in kitchen was handy but took up to much room. I put it in spaceous bathroom right off kitchen. Then it hit me to make hangers off end wall of washer/ dryer closet ( i made from hollow core doors). Took a bit of time to create but i love it. Summer and spring; straw bonnets, winter: wool scarfs. YES!
This door i bought from habitat, $30.00. Love it. I hung it between studio (was a living room) and new living room (was a dinning room). Still have to add stops, knob and latch.
Will be salvaging such things from a house destined to be tore down,. Yipee, lots of effort but well worth the feeling of accomplishment.
I had a scare, thought i had a leak. False alarm otter fountain was diverted and pumped water out while i was away( timer). I ended up taking it out before i made that deduction. So... I dug it deeper, added soil around edges and began planting around it too. Fish back in pond after a few days in tub, claw foot, outside lol. I added diverter to pump, now i have a more gentle stream of water from otter and a small fountain. All these things came to me 2nd hand.
Did you notice the plants? Bought several after having educational talk with pond woman then collected more from a friends pond, including a huge case of posion ivy. Which by the way i usually have heavy reaction to. I soaked in tub with baking soda. I still cant belive it cleared up with out that nightmarish weeping stage. Thank you God. Soaked more rhem once.
And it has been very handy. Served as a great dog run for Joey, right from rhe back door. Now i've got a line out to a tree. More length and shade. What fun to hang out laundry. I feel like i live in a different era. Need to dig out my wicker laundry basket.
Kitchen window is in! It's huge and beautiful, made with salvaged windows from clients farm house. I still need to trim inside and paint trim. also make some sort of storm and screens for summer. It feels so natural, like it belonged. I am grateful to Jean who made this happen>
view from the kitchen, it's awesome. I can see the entire back 40, including flowers in vegetable garden, so nice. Glass is ancient, wavy imperfections, personality.
My goal is to support my new home through art events at 610. How i achieve this will be a work in progress. Some ideas are to have classes and workshops. Also hold sales of M Shaw Folk Art with a salvaged / reclaimed theme. Much of my message to the world is about seeing beauty in the ordinary things around us, using things that already exist in different creative ways. Much of my new home was fashioned with these ideas in mind. I think maybe I can offer consulting design for others who have stuff and want to make do too. Many ideas are percolating.
Classes/Workshops: thinking out loud, having a running program of projects using found and reclaimed materials i myself am interested in and currently working with. These would be sessions where we share ideas and work together. I would lead the way but folk would contribute their own materials and creative approaches. There are many areas I am interested in exploring that we could explore together. Fees are yet to be determine. The difference between a class and workshop is that a workshop would require a longer time frame, might be messier. I'm inclined to begin a Holiday gift series of classes where what we make can be given for gifts. These would be on a regular basis, a week day evening. An on going program. The project announced ahead of time from my web site and blog, materials to bring, fees etc.
I plan to also hold a week day art evening that is simply an environment to gather to make art. I, myself will be painting. i will not be teaching. There will be a fee.
A workshop would most likely be on a Saturday afternoon.
I believe I have to begin and what will be will be. Art has always been a big piece of my life. I am blessed to have a place to continue and to share the passion of "making do". I ask that you help me by sharing my web site , blog and art.
My intention for 610 is a safe peace filled place to make and focus on aRt. You are welcome if you will leave your troubles at home and risk a mindful supportive practice focusing on the creative process and possibilities. PS I am a fairly private person, please be respectful of my home and neighbors property. Over flow parking will be on side streets. Just sayin...
